There is a saying that goes like this:
Age is but a number and in today’s world that saying goes a long way. While the world sees the age of 60-65 as a suitable retirement age, most people today are forced to, or by choice continue working beyond that retirement age. One such person took that decision many years ago, way before the recommended age of retirement. Having worked as an administrator in her husbands business for many years, she was left distraught after his passing.
She was in her forties and found herself a widowed, single mother, with a teenage daughter. Rhita Russon became the soul bread winner of her family and she was faced with many obstacles and choices. Surrendering to her current situation was not an option. Instead she returned to the institute of learning and set off to obtain a qualification in Social Work. Since then she has completed not just a four year Social Work Degree, but she also completed her Honours in Social Work and is working towards her Masters.
She had barely completed her four year degree when she was head hunted by Jewish Community Services to join their Social Work team and for the past twelve years she has been a committed member of the team, going above and beyond the call of duty to serve the Jewish Community of Cape Town.
She has proven herself to be a valuable member of the team, always advocating for her clients, to ensure that their needs are met. Her specialities include; Working with Families, Statutory Work and Gender Based Violence.
Rhita, driven by the passion for her work is now looking at doing even more and has decided to go into private practice. Should you find yourself in need of Social Work intervention. Please do not hesitate to contact Rhita to enquire about her services.
